After months of refinement, Douzhuanlu (斗轉錄) has finally launched on the App Store.
As a developer who has always been fascinated by the night sky and classical metaphysics, I have long searched for a way to connect the vastness of celestial phenomena with the rhythm of individual life. There are plenty of professional star chart apps and no shortage of beautifully designed journaling tools, but very few seamlessly blend “observations of the sky” with “personal records.”
That is precisely the inspiration behind Douzhuanlu (斗轉錄): Observe the stars. Record the moment.
Why Douzhuanlu (斗轉錄)?
“Seven stars of the Northern Dipper turn the heavens.” In classical metaphysics, the shifting of the stars is not merely a measure of time, but a mirror of destiny.
Within the app, I have built a calendrical engine with observatory-grade precision, featuring:
- Real-time celestial simulation: An accurate star chart based on your current geographic location.
- Classical calendar integration: Seamless alignment of the ganzhi (干支) cycle calendar, solar terms, and modern astronomical data.
- AR observation experience: Raise your phone to identify constellations and planets in the real night sky.
Development Insights
The hardest part of development was not the algorithms, but capturing that sense of “stillness.” I relied heavily on native Swift development, and to ensure optimal performance on iOS 18+, I even rebuilt the underlying data-loading logic from scratch.
This process of “proving the mystical through code” deepened my understanding of what changes and what endures.
